- IRS Free Tax Prep Programs
Thousands of locations across the U.S. offer free, in-person tax prep help through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals (generally those making $51,000 or less) in their own communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls and other convenient locations.
Find the nearest site in your neighborhood using the VITA site locator tool.
