Research suggests that rehabilitation counselors encounter a variety of ethical dilemmas in their work and want professional development to make ethical case management decisions. This webinar session explores ethical theories of deontology and utilitarianism, five ethical principles in the field of rehabilitation counseling, the concept of an ethical dilemma, and application of an ethical decision-making model. We discuss human experimentation of World War II as the historical origin of informed consent based on the Nuremberg Trial. Other topics include informed choice, confidentiality, and reasons why codes of ethics are inadequate for decision-making. There will be time for participants to share several ethical dilemmas relevant to rehabilitation counselors.
