For too long, youth have had limited paid work experience in authentic settings as a part of their secondary school course of study. And more significantly, individuals in need of competitive employment support after school have found themselves sitting at home waiting to be served by adult systems and many times have had to settle for what is offered. These issues are addressed, when VR and community providers engage with the students several years prior to school exit. So the student’s make a seamless transition from school to career; that is, the day after graduation is the same as the day before – competitive job of choice with supports in place to maintain performance.
This session will present how this Seamless Transition Approach has been applied across disabilities and geographic locations. Data results and case studies will be provided. In particular, time will be spent in discussing how collaborators (LEAs, VR, DD/MH, and adult community providers) have accommodated their systems to assist each student achieve seamless transition results.
